This supplemental appropriations bill was passed during a special session called by Governor Deal convening on 13 November 2018 to amend the current FY 2019 budget to aid and support the Hurricane Recovery in south Georgia.
This amended Fiscal Year 2019 budget reappropriates $270 million in surpluses recognized during the first half of this fiscal year (since 01July2018) toward the purposes of hurricane/disaster relief in south Georgia. Hurricane Michael was the most devastating storm to strike the southwestern region of our state in recorded history. The legislature amends our budget to recognize differences in revenues (surpluses or deficits) every year at the midpoint during our normal legislative session. This year, we came back early to do so in order to better meet our responsibilities in the recovery effort.
