SB 85 Malt Beverages; provide for limited sale at retail by manufacturers

Voted on Monday March 13, 2017

Michael Caldwell's thoughts

This legislation has been my baby for years. Many of you have followed as I have fought for freedom for Georgia's Craft Brewers. We remain the only state in the Union in which you are not permitted to sell beer in a brewery. Breweries on average are 2.5 times as profitable in states that are not Georgia vs breweries in our state.

This bill would permit brewers to sell beer on site (no more silly "buy a tour, we'll give you beer") for on-site *and* off-site consumption. It permits up to 3,000 barrels to be sold on site each year (thats a ton of beer). This would allow you to buy a 24 pack to take home with you.

Sounds small, but its a huge victory in a space we've been working to reform for what feels like forever. Its an exciting day.
