HB 918 Revenue and taxation; Internal Revenue Code; provisions

Voted on Thursday February 22, 2018

Michael Caldwell's thoughts

This incorporates both IRC (the annual update bill we must pass to tie to federal changes in the tax code) for 2017 and 2018.
This would also double Georgia’s standard deductions for tax year 2018 and after (to $4600 for those filling single and $6000 for those filing married).
This is the *first* income tax reduction in Georgia history. It reduces our income tax from 6% to 5.75%, then upon passage of a resolution by the Georgia House & Senate in 2020, reduces again from 5.75% to 5.5%. This is set to expire on December 31, 2025 (matching the federal tax cut legislation).
This also exempts all jet fuel from state sales and use tax to become competitive with sister states.
