HB 769 Health; recommendations from the House Rural Development Council; implement

Voted on Wednesday February 21, 2018

Michael Caldwell's thoughts

This is a large scale rural healthcare package that came as a result of the Rural Development Council that met during the off season.

The largest pieces in the measure are these:

It allows for 'remote order entry' for pharmacies in hospitals. That allows for drug orders for hospital patients to be entered remotely by any pharmacist licensed in the country to practice in Georgia. Great action to help combat limited availability of pharmacists in rural areas.

It establishes a Rural Center for Health Care Innovation to develop a curriculum in hospital management for board members of rural hospitals.

It also increases the rural hospital tax credit (initially passed by Geoff Duncan, which many of you have heard me say is one of my favorite bills we've passed in my time here) from a 90% credit to a 100% credit.
