HB 198 Health; eliminate certificate of need requirements for all health care facilities except certain long-term care facilities and services

Voted on Thursday March 7, 2019

Michael Caldwell's thoughts

This legislation is the Certificate of Need (CON) reform legislation. CON manages where healthcare providers/hospitals can be placed in Georgia, and serves as a barrier to free market principles finally being entered into the healthcare industry.
This legislation was initially set to repeal CON, instead it now simply reforms the requirements, specifies hospital and hospital authority obligations, extends the rural hospital tax credit, allows Cancer Treatment Centers of America to convert their facility to a hospital and exempt a facility called Legacy Sports in north Fulton from the CON process.
