HB 154 Dental hygienists; perform certain functions under general supervision; authorize

Voted on Friday February 10, 2017

Michael Caldwell's thoughts

This legislation expands the scope of dental hygienists so that they can practice additional functions under 'general supervision' rather than 'direct supervision'. Direct supervision requires that their attending dentist is actually on site with them during their practice. General supervision allows for hygienists to serve in additional locations, though under the 'general supervision' of a licensed dentist. This is a great way for us to maximize the talent and expertise of these professionals as we strive to expand healthcare coverage and availability in our state.
