This Week in Your Capitol | 30 Jan – 02 Feb 2017

Week 3: Legislative Days 9-12

Your legislature is back in action. Now that our third week in session has come to a close, legislation is finally starting to make it to the floor out of committees and our days are getting busier.

We took votes on several pieces of legislation this week ranging from livestock dealers licenses to motor vehicle regulation updates. Don’t worry, we even made sure to update your Class C drivers license so that it covers three-wheeled cars in case that ever becomes an issue for you…

The Medical Marijuana Working Group that Speaker Ralston appointed me to sit on met for the first time on Wednesday. We held a two hour hearing and received updates from the Director of Vital Records who has been tasked with issuing Georgia’s current medical cannabis ID’s, heard stories from more than a dozen Georgians coping with conditions that could benefit from cannabis oil, and discussed House Bill 65 that would expand this program. This was all before a packed committee room full of Georgians supporting the measure. We’ll be meeting again next Wednesday 08 FEB to discuss and possibly take action on the bill.

Senate Bill 85, this year’s legislation to free our craft beer industry from Georgia’s ludicrous regulations made it through the Senate on Thursday. It was a tremendous victory for economic freedom in Georgia, and is now coming over to the people’s chamber in the House. I’m looking forward to doing my part to be sure it finds a positive reception in our chamber and that we can get it to the Governor’s desk as quickly as possible. The Cherokee Tribune did a great article on the issue and legislation this week as well.

We are out of session today (Friday, though I am typing this to you from my office here at the capitol anyway…) and also out on Monday, then we’ll be kicking back into gear on Tuesday morning through Friday of next week. Not that you need a reminder, but don’t forget to tune in and watch our Falcons bring home Atlanta’s first Super Bowl Championship this Sunday. #RiseUp

Don’t forget that you can track my votes via my legislative tracker and on Twitter. You can also keep up with other legislative updates by following me on Facebook or my website.

Let me know if I can be of service to you- Please don’t ever hesitate to call. Thank you for allowing me to represent our families.

Go make it an Outstanding weekend!
